New
Prints 2001/Summer,
IPCNY's third new prints show opened in our Chelsea space. The
Selections Committee was composed of: Starr Figura, Assistant
Curator of Prints, The Museum of Modern Art, New York; David Kiehl,
Curator of Prints, Whitney Museum of American Art; Janice C. Oresman,
Art Advisor; Nina del Rio, Sotheby's.com; Andrew Richards, Director,
Marian Goodman Gallery; and Maurice Sanchez. Derriere L'Etoile
Studios.
Fifty four prints by both established and emerging artists were
included in New Prints 2001-summer. The selection offered enormous
variety in style, medium, and subject matter. Of the 21 publishers
represented in this exhibition, four were appearing at IPCNY for
the first time: Coronado Studio, Austin, Texas; Counter-Editions,
London, England; Manneken Press, Morgantown, West Virginia; and
Women of the West Museum, Denver, Colorado. Self-published work
by individual artists ranged from a 5 1/2 x3 1/2 inch accordian
book incorporating photo etching and lithographic techniques by
Carin Whitney, to an etching on silk from "The Mystery Series"
suspended on a six-foot stand by Leslie Lowinger, to a 4x8 foot
relief on canvas by Jeff Konigsberg.
The show was on view from May 15 through August 3, 2001.
