	NEW PRINTS PROGRAM New Prints Shows Essays Presses/Publishers Selections Committees Artists How to Submit NEW PRINTS 2008 at the New York School of Interior Design Selected by: Jane Hammond June 17 – July 24, 2008 June 17, 2008 Panel Discussion: 6:00-7:00 p.m. Opening Reception: 7:00-8:30 p.m.   International Print Center New York announces NEW PRINTS 2008 at the New York School of Interior Design, located at 170 East 70th Street. The exhibition has been organized by IPCNY and is the first collaboration between IPCNY and NYSID. On view from June 17 through July 24, 2008, New Prints 2008 consists of fifty works by forty-eight artists, selected from a pool of approximately 1,500 submissions. Jane Hammond, internationally acclaimed artist, made the selections.  The exhibition is a variation of New Prints 2008/Spring on view at IPCNY from May 1 – June 7, 2008.    The Discriminating Eye: Understanding Prints, a panel discussion, will be presented at NYSID prior to the opening reception on June 17, at 6:00 pm. This event is sponsored by IPCNY, NYSID and the International Fine Print Dealers Association.  The media sponsor for the event is Art on Paper.  Participants are as follows: Jane Hammond, Artist, Samantha Rippner, Associate Curator, Department of Drawings and Prints, The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Joseph Goddu, Director, Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inc.; and Janice Oresman, collector and curator.  A reception with the artists will follow at 7 pm.  NEW PRINTS 2008 is a variation of NEW PRINTS 2008/Spring, the twenty-seventh presentation of IPCNY’s New Prints Program, a series of juried exhibitions highlighting contemporary prints made within the past year by artists at all stages of their careers. A core group of 26 prints from New Prints 2008/Spring will be augmented for the NYSID presentation with 24 new works.  The exhibition represents a cross-section of some of the most exceptional printmaking today, continuing IPCNY’s commitment to provide an ongoing exhibition venue for contemporary prints and a major source of information about artists working in the medium. A curatorial statement by Ms. Hammond accompanies the exhibition.  She remarks that the works selected for NEW PRINTS 2008 illustrate that “artists are accessing and combining reproduced images in a reproductive medium to unique ends.” The complete artists’ list for NEW PRINTS 2008 is as follows: Lauren Abshire, ADÁL, Romeo Alaeff, Florence Alfano McEwin, Rosaire Appel, Mathew Benedict, Anders Bergstrom, Laura Berman, Edgar Bryan, Christopher Cannon, Suzanne Caporael, Maria de la Providencia Casanovas, JoAnn Coffino, Ernest Concepcion, Hope Dector, Lesley Dill, Alex Dodge, Tomory Dodge, Joe Fig, Angelo Filomeno, Frank Gehry, Sam Gilliam, Torrie Groening, Nathaniel Hester, Jim Hodges, Mel Kendrick, Mark Klett, Joyce Kozloff, Karen Kunc, Nicola Lopez, Julie Mehretu, Delilah Montoya, Jiha Moon, Bruce Nauman, John O’Donnell, Sunghee Park, Dan Rizzie, Jenny Robinson, Ruth Root, Susan Rowland, Ed Ruscha, Doris Salcedo, Patricia Spergel, Hester Stinnett, Ewa Tarsia, Maki Teshima, Randy Williams, and Melinda Yale. Highlights of NEW PRINTS 2008 include: The Acorn Encounters the Palatine Light, a screenprint with water-based and phosphorescent ink on paper by Mathew Benedict; Maria de la Providencia Casanovas’s Hair 1, a seven plate photo-intaglio; Refuge, a five-plate etching with aquatint, sugarlift, and spit-bite by Julie Mehretu; an untitled work by Mel Kendrick of cast paper with pigment; A Sudden Flutter, a digital collage that incorporates etchings by Torrie Groening; and an archival pigment print and screenprint by Jim Hodges, Arena II (given a shaft of sunlight). Taken together, the two presentations of New Prints presentations include the work of seventy-five artists from across the country, thirty-six of whom work independently.  Other countries represented include Canada, England, and Sweden. Publishers, presses, and galleries represented in the NYSID exhibitinclude: Alexander and Bonin, the Brodsky Center, Burnet Editions, CRG Editions, Diane Villani Editions, Dieu Donné, Flatbed Press, Gemini G.E.L., Lower East Side Printshop, Segura Publishing Company, Serie Project, SOLO Impression, Simmelink/Sukimoto Editions, Tandem Press, and VanDeb Editions. The New Prints Program is the core of IPCNY’s exhibition programming. New Prints 2000 launched the program in September 2000. To date, these twenty-seven exhibitions have included work from nearly 1,000 artists and 160 presses across the country and abroad. International Print Center New York is a non-profit institution founded to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print worldwide. Through innovative programming, it fosters a climate for the enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists' prints – from the old master to the contemporary. IPCNY offers its members a program of workshop and gallery visits, and has established an informational website and Information Desk available to the public at the gallery. IPCNY depends upon public and private donations to support its programs. The New Prints Program is funded in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Generous funding is provided by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and The Greenwall Foundation.  A grant from the Robert Lehman Foundation supports IPCNY’s exhibitions programs. The International Fine Print Dealers Association is a nonprofit organization of art dealers, galleries, and publishers in the field of fine prints who are committed to the highest standards of quality, ethics, and connoisseurship, and to promoting a greater appreciation of fine prints among collectors and the public.
