NEW PRINTS 2003/Summer

International Print Center New York announces the ninth presentation of its New Prints Program from Wednesday, June 18th through Friday, July 25th in its gallery at 526 West 26th Street in Chelsea. New Prints 2003/Summer is one of a series of juried exhibitions organized by IPCNY, presenting current prints by artists at all stages of their careers.

With New Prints 2003/Summer, IPCNY continues its rotating presentations of contemporary artists' prints, establishing an ongoing exhibition venue for new work and a central source of information about artists working in the medium of printmaking. For New Prints 2003/Summer, the Selections Committee (which changes with each New Prints exhibition) was comprised of the following members: Alyson Baker, Executive Director, Socrates Sculpture Park; Judith Brodsky, Founding Chairman, Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper and a Trustee of IPCNY; Gabriella de Ferrari, writer; Gerrit Lansing, collector and art historian; James Siena, artist; and Marilyn Symmes, independent curator. Ms. Symmes also contributed the curatorial essay for the exhibition. Sandra Lang continues in her role as consultant to the program.

IPCNY received some 800 submissions for New Prints 2003/Summer, all released within the past year. The committee selected fifty-four prints (including artists' books and printed objects), representing the work of thirty-one artists and drawn from a wide range of sources. In addition to prints published by the artists themselves, work from the following publishers is included: ACS Editions, Alexander and Bonin Publishing, Marianne Boesky, Dieu Donné Papermill, Lower East Side

Printshop and Pelavin Editions, all of New York City; Durham Press, Durham, PA; Goya-Girl Press, Baltimore, MD; Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Minneapolis, MN; Master Print Series, Mass Art, Boston, MA; Rutgers Center for Innovative Paper and Printmaking, New Brunswick, NJ; Segura Publishing Co., Mesa, AZ; and Shark's Ink, Lyons, CO.

The complete artist list is as follows: Michael Barnes, Willie Cole, Ann Conner, Roy De Forest, Nancy Friedemann, Art Hazelwood, Yuji Hiratsuka, Shu-Min Tung Kaldis, Stefan Kürten, Geraldine Lau, Suzanne McClelland, Takashi Murakami, Christian Marclay, Beverly McIver, Yoshitomo Nara, James Nares, John Newman, Lothar Osterburg, Katja Oxman, Liliana Porter, David Rathman, J Noel Reifel, Peter Saul, Jean Shin, Noriko Shinohara, Richard Tuttle, Sara Varon, Rob Voerman, Lisa Young, and Liz Zanis.

International Print Center New York is a non-profit institution founded to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print worldwide. Through innovative programming, it fosters a climate for the enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists' prints-from the old master to the contemporary. IPCNY offers its members a program of workshop and gallery visits, and has established an informational website and Information Desk available to the public at the center. IPCNY depends upon public and private donations to support its programs.

New Prints 2003/Summer is funded in part with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Manhattan Arts Development Fund; The New York State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
