International Print Center New York welcomes summer '05 with
New Prints 2005/Summer-- ETCHINGS, the seventeenth presentation
of its New Prints Program, a series of juried exhibitions
highlighting brand-new prints made by artists at all stages
of their careers. With this exhibition, IPCNY continues its
role as an ongoing exhibition venue for contemporary artists'
prints, and a central source of information about artists
working today in the medium of printmaking.
In
a departure from our usual New Prints exhibitions which
showcase examples of all mediums of printmaking, the submissions
criteria and selections process for New Prints 2005/Summer
were focused on a single medium-etching .
The
Selections Committee for New Prints 2005/Summer was
made up of the followin individuals: Desirée Alvarez,
artist; Alexandra Anderson-Spivy, writer; Judy Hecker, Assistant
Curator, Department of Prints and Illustrated Books, The
Museum of Modern Art; Jennifer Melby, Master Printer; Harris
T. Schrank, collector and IPCNY Trustee; and Michael Steinberg,
Director, Michael Steinberg Fine Art.
A
curatorial essay by Alexandra Anderson-Spivy will accompany
the exhibition.
The
artworks included in New Prints 2005/Summer--fifty-eight
works by forty-four artists-represent a snapshot of the
broad range of possibilities within the medium of etching.
Consistent with all New Prints exhibitions thus far, the
exhibition brings together work from a wide range of artists
and presses across the country, as well as a growing number
of international sources including Brazil, France, Germany,
Italy and South Africa.
