Artist Statement:

This series of drawings is based on letterform as a subject. The use of letterform stems from the architectural properties of type, and a symbolic representation of communication. I "build up" layers of these letters on paper to create a basic composition. Through the layering process, shapes and parts begin to interact. From this interaction, the space expands and evolves, touching on movement, gravity, and spatial relationships. The resulting chaos is somewhat indicative of the "fallout" from modern culture. Specifically, the way media bombards our daily being: over-stimulation from distracting sound and images, television, all types of media catering to and vying for our increasingly short attention span. Having grown up in the 1980's and '90s, this phenomenon has effected me and is inherent to my work.
