Rosaire Appel Artist’s Statement: My recent prints are multi-frames, horizontally or vertically connected. The inspiration was not only Japanese accordion books but also from putting together video animations and of course comics. The form of multi-frame allows for the distribution of content over time, rather than in one fell swoop. The time element- duration- which allows content to grow and cross pollinate is particularly useful to my way of working- a gradual expansion of a theme, variations and branches. The images evolve as I work on them simultaneously. My source material is everywhere and unlimited. This means that anything in the visual world is potentially useable. I use photographs, scans, and drawings as raw material. I am growing image-language libraries in the backyard of my computer. Biography: Rosaire Appel has been selected to appear in an array of New York exhibits from 1994 through the Present. She is currently working on an ongoing series of 7 x 9” visual books. Many of her photographs have been published; such as MABEL IN HER TWENTIES 1992, Terrorism: an introspection 1998, and Ecstasy and the Bride Charger 2003.
