Artist's Statement

My work appropriates semblances of the natural world found in museums, art history, and pop culture. The installations are not sentimentally driven or ecologically didactic. Instead, I combine various aspects of the conventions of institutional display to reach another manifestation. My work refers to its historical underpinnings while mirroring contemporary desires to sanitize and sensationalize the experience of nature.

Replications utilizes antiquated engravings from natural history and re-configures the samples into the typologically unidentifiable. Instead of being a specimen-taker, the works refer to the role of the specimen-maker. The accumulation of these images creates a new narrative addressing the unnatural nature of symmetry, the implications of overpopulation, and the beauty in mutation.
