International Print Center New York announces the summer presentation of its New Prints Program from Thursday, May 9th through Saturday, July 27th at 526 West 26th Street. New Prints 2002/Summer is the fifth in a series of juried exhibitions organized by IPCNY, presenting current prints by both known and unknown artists at all stages of their careers.

New Prints shows are juried by a committee of six individuals representing various disciplines in the field. Those serving on the Selections Committee for New Prints 2002/Summer were Susan Lorence, private dealer; John Morning, graphic arts designer and Chairman of IPCNY; Marc Schwartz, collector; Pari Stave, Director, The AXA Gallery; Robert Storr, Senior Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art; and Terry Winters, artist. Sandra Lang acts as Consultant to the program.

For all new prints shows presented by IPCNY, criteria for selection are as follows: only original fine art prints of the highest quality are eligible; prints must have a release date within the past year; selections must represent a variety of styles and techniques as well as a diversity of sources, geographical and otherwise.

IPCNY received some 900 submissions for New Prints 2002/Summer. Fifty-three prints were selected for the exhibition. Sources range from an artists' collaborative in New York City, Ad hoc Artists, to individual artists who self-published their prints, to a range of workshops, large and small, including four making their first appearances at IPCNY. These include three California presses, Cirrus Editions, East Side Editions and Mixographia Workshop, and Pink Projects of New York City.

Artists represented are: Polly Apfelbaum, Jake Berthot, Louise Bourgeois, Dusty Boynton, Tom Burckhardt, Suzanne Caporeal, Manuel Castro Cobos, Enrique Chagoya, George Condo, Diana Cooper, Sandrine Guerin, Art Hazelwood, Jonathan Higgins, Richard Hutter, Jim Iserman, Jee Sung Lee, Robert Mangold, Suzanne McClelland, Takashi Murakami, Elizabeth Murray, Roxy Paine, Laura Sue Phillips, Adam Pitt, Monique Prieto, Andrew Raftery, Alexander Ross, Ed Ruscha, David Schafer, Larry Scholder, Jonathan Seliger, Kiki Smith, Richard Tuttle, Carol Wax, Lisa Yuskavage, Andrea Zittel, and Ad hoc Artists.

Anyone wishing to purchase work is referred directly to the source-artist, publisher or gallery. IPCNY, a nonprofit institution, requires no commission on sales.

With New Prints 2002/Summer , IPCNY continues its rotating presentation of current prints, establishing an ongoing venue for the viewing of artists' prints and a central source of information about artists working in the medium of printmaking.

International Print Center New York is a new non-profit institution founded to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print worldwide. Through its innovative programming, IPCNY fosters a climate for the enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists' prints-from the old master to the contemporary. IPCNY offers its members a program of workshop and gallery visits, and has established an informational website. IPCNY depends upon public and private donations to support its programs.

New Prints 2002/Summer is funded in part with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Manhattan Arts Development Fund.
