Deadline: October 21, 2018
Freedom of the Presses is a brief survey exhibition of artists’ books, creative publications, and prints used by artists to further community engagement and social justice projects. This exhibition celebrates and expands upon the release of Booklyn’s newest trade publication “Freedom of the Presses: Artists’ Books in the 21st Century.” Freedom of the Presses provides perspectives on how to deconstruct colonial and contemporary constraints on the concept, content, design, production and distribution of artists’ books and activist publications along with models of how to reimagine artists’ bookmaking as a socially engaged practice. This exhibition brings together artworks published in the book alongside works introduced to the organization through this open call.
