In Exchange: Small Press Fair South Florida Printmaking Open Call

SPF South Florida is pleased to announce an open call for submissions. In Exchange is an exhibition which invites artists to submit work with a particular focus on the collaborative nature of fine art printmaking. Historically, printmaking has brought artists together on the press; often a master printmaker bringing into the fold an artist whose expertise lies in other medium, whether that be painting, collage, drawing or sculpture. Through collaboration, the two are able to produce something greater than their two halves, allowing an exchange between process and ideas. Within contemporary printmaking, the act of collaboration expands beyond location, allowing printmakers who have never met to trade work and engage through print portfolio exchanges. Though this exhibition calls for work made in collaboration with printmakers, it is not solely focused on exhibiting printed editions in the traditional sense. Instead, this exhibition opens a dialogue about how collaboration functions in the contemporary art world. Whether producing large-scale paper installations or miniature sculptural paintings, submissions should be the result of an exchange between at least two artists, one with a focus in printmaking. This exhibition will be open September - December, 2019 in The Projects located in FATVillage, Fort Lauderdale. In Exchange will accompany the fourth edition of Small Press Fair, SPF’19 on November 9, 2019. The opening reception will be held September 28, 2019 with a closing reception on November 30, 2019, during the FATVillage Artwalks which attract thousands of visitors to the art enclave.
